About the role:

Edstaff are currently working with a number of secondary schools in and around Wigan that require passionate cover supervisors to work full time and part time on a temporary supply basis. If you are looking to gain classroom experience before considering a career in education or have the passion to work with and teach young people, this is the opportunity for you! The role of a Cover Supervisor is diverse and challenging but also very rewarding. As a Cover Supervisor in a secondary school, you will supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of secondary class teachers. You will be managing student behaviour in line with the school's policies and procedures, as well as supporting students in undertaking learning activities across the curriculum. You will be delivering the work set by the absent teacher; you will not be required to plan or mark lessons. Work set will not require a subject specialist to teach it. This role is ideal for graduates, career changers or those considering a future in teaching.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supervise classes across all key stages (KS3 and 4) in the absence of subject teachers
  • Deliver pre-planned lesson materials and ensure students remain on task
  • Promote positive behaviour
  • Support students with their learning
  • Take accurate registers and report concerns to relevant staff
  • Assist with general school duties as required
  • Adhere to school policies and procedures

Essential requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification
  • Experience working with young people aged 11-16
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confident classroom presence
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Reliable and punctual with a professional attitude
  • Enhanced DBS or willing to obtain one
