About the role:

EdStaff are currently seeking enthusiastic and reliable Cover Supervisors to join secondary schools across the St Helens area. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about education and enjoy working with young people.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising classes in the absence of their usual teacher, ensuring students remain focused, engaged and well behaved while completing pre-set work. You will play an important role in maintaining a positive learning environment and supporting the smooth running of the school day.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supervise classes across a range of subjects in the absence of the regular teacher
  • Deliver pre-prepared lesson plans and ensure students complete the work provided
  • Maintain a positive, safe and productive classroom environment
  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with the school's policies and expectations
  • Support students with their learning where appropriate
  • Report any concerns regarding student behaviour, safeguarding or welfare to the appropriate member of staff
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff regarding lessons and student engagement
  • Follow school policies and procedures at all times
  • Build positive relationships with students and school staff

Person specification:

  • Passionate about supporting children and young people in their education
  • Confident and comfortable managing groups of secondary-aged students
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Calm, patient and professional approach to behaviour management
  • Reliable, organised and adaptable
  • Able to work independently and use initiative
  • A positive attitude and willingness to contribute to the wider school community
  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential

Essential requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A professional and reliable approach to work
  • Ability to follow lesson plans and school procedures
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
