Overview: The Conway Centre, part of Edsential Residential, has been dedicated to providing transformative Outdoor Education and Arts courses for young people since 1969. Nestled on the banks of the Menai Strait, our picturesque location allows for a multitude of outdoor activities, including kayaking, canoeing, stand‑up paddleboarding, and sailing. With access to stunning coasteering venues and the majestic mountains of Eryri, the centre is supported by a team that thrives on delivering a diverse educational experience across various disciplines.
The Role: We are excited to announce our long‑established Trainee Outdoor Instructor programme, which aims to cultivate highly skilled instructors who are not only adept in outdoor activities but also exceptional educators. Successful candidates will embark on a journey of personal and professional growth, with the opportunity to gain National Governing Body (NGB) qualifications throughout their training. This is a one‑year role starting September 2026, with the possibility of extension upon successful completion of the initial training period.

- Participate in the maintenance and monitoring of equipment.
- Build rapport and empower clients to develop socially, educationally and to develop their practical skills.

Training Offered: You will get the opportunity to gain the following NGBs and training throughout the 2 years as a trainee (approximately £1,300), and £500 towards other NGB training and assessment.
- 16‑hour First Aid Course
- Power Boat Level 2
- VHF radio course
- ML Training
- Tidal planning and navigation knowledge
- Paddle sport leadership courses
- Up to 6 personal development days with our Lead Instructor team or working with higher‑level groups.
Qualifications and Interests: Candidates should have a genuine passion and enthusiasm for the outdoors and ideally have gained some training qualifications in outdoor activities. We are also looking for a willingness to participate in other curriculum areas which the centre provides. Edsential regards safeguarding with the highest priority. Applicants for posts will be subject to stringent vetting and induction processes. The successful applicant will be subject to relevant checks and enhanced DBS.
