An exciting opportunity has arisen at EDSB. We are seeking to employ a SHEQ Advisor. The SHEQ Advisor will ensure Safety, Health, Wellbeing, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) is maintained by EDSB employees with an initial focus on a long-term contract at one of North Yorkshire's largest Hospital Trusts.
The role will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Provide expert advice and support, information and resources to all parties in all SHEQ matters and enable them to suitably manage their own, and others, Health and Safety.
- Be an active member of project teams, providing H&S expertise and input to ensure suitable planning and implementation to minimise H&S risks.
- Promote a positive culture that is embedded in all practices.
- Advise on a range of specialist areas.
- Keep up to date with all H&S legislation and any developments that affect our industry.
- Develop employees' skills, knowledge and competency in matters which could impact H&S.
- Work in partnership with all operations and teams within the business ensuring H&S adds value to how we work.
- Lead in the undertaking of risk assessments and support the business in applying appropriate mitigation strategies and controls, ensuring all legal requirements are met.
- Carry out regular site inspections and visits to check policies, procedures and controls are being properly implemented.
- Carry out internal SHEQ audits against relevant ISO standards, Sector Schemes and other standards applicable to EDSB activities.
- Take a lead role in reportable accidents, incidents and near miss investigations. Ensure corrective actions are concluded and follow up closure of all issues.
- Lead projects to develop and improve H&S risk management and get involved in the design and implementation of H&S improvement programs and initiatives.
- Develop and engage sound relationships with internal and external customers.
- Ensure that all necessary documentation and information is provided in a timely and complete manner.
- Carry out other appropriate duties as assigned by the SHEQ Manager.
Required skills:
- A minimum of 3 years H&S experience.
- Experience in a healthcare environment would be preferred.
- NEBOSH General Certificate.
- Broad knowledge and interest in Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality activities.
- Passionate about H&S.
- Pragmatic, business and customer focused.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Able to work at all levels and build strong partnerships.
- It is desirable to have working knowledge of ISO45001 implementation and maintenance.
The role will initially be mainly based in Harrogate but there will be a requirement to also work from our Leeds office in LS11. Travel may also be required throughout the UK to carry out audits, site visits etc. A full, clean driving licence is therefore preferable. Working hours are 08:30 to 17:00 with a 45-minute lunch break. Salary will be discussed at interview stage.
