Embrace Excellence

This role is responsible for ensuring the efficient daily operation of our malt whisky operations at The Macallan Distillery. This involves the daily management of people involved in these processes. The Production Team Leader will be expected to support a culture of continuous improvement to drive performance efficiencies and take responsibility for delivery of KPI’s identified by the Distillation & Technical Excellence Manager. A crucial aspect of the role will involve being a key site contact for facilitating all aspects of distilling and supporting wider Estate activities by working closely with the various teams on site and externally.

Make an Impact

  • Manage distillery and effluent plant teams to safely and compliantly deliver The Macallan new make spirit (NMS) plan
  • Support distillation strategy and optimise asset performance
  • Collaborate with whisky makers, Liquid Quality, and Engineering to ensure NMS quality and operational excellence
  • Assist in developing a continuous improvement culture and lead strategic trials focused on NMS quality, yield, and resource efficiency
  • Adopt and implement new technologies to enhance distillery performance
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC, H&S, Environmental, FEMAS, HACCP, and other company systems
  • Promote best practices in health, safety, and environmental standards
  • Support sustainability goals through efficient energy, water, and waste management
  • Provide holiday cover for senior roles and act as Silver Incident Manager on a rota basis
  • Supervise contractors and facilitate operator training and competency development
  • Lead daily operations including production scheduling, stock control, and procurement
  • Troubleshoot production issues and conduct risk assessments
  • Coordinate with departments including Experience, IT, Engineering, and Maturation
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards and ensure site security

Your Talent and Skills

To be successful in this role, you have experience working in a warehouse and/or distillation production environment, with strong health and safety awareness supported by relevant qualifications such as IOSH Managing Safely. You hold or are working towards a GCD or IBD Diploma in Distilling. It would be advantageousifyou’re trained in the management and control of Legionella. You bring internal auditing experience and are confident in managing budgets. Your leadership skills are well-established, with a proven ability to manage people effectively. You have sound knowledge of Customs and Excise regulations, environmental compliance, and CoSHH. You’re proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and have experience with stock control. You’re comfortable adopting and implementing new technologies, and you take initiative in organising daily production activities, making decisions that best utilise your team’s skills. You’re capable of making production-level decisions in the absence of the Distillery Manager, especially in safety or environmental situations. You’re a strong problem solver, able to assess operational issues and determine the right course of action. Your planning and organisational skills are excellent, with a keen eye for detail, and you’re confident leading team meetings and motivating others.
