Embrace Excellence
This role is responsible for ensuring the efficient daily operation of our malt whisky operations at the Glenrothes distillery. This involves the daily management of people involved in these processes. The Production Team Leader will be expected to support a culture of continuous improvement to drive performance efficiencies and take responsibility for delivery of KPI’s identified by the Distillery Manager. A key aspect of the role will involve being a key site contact for facilitating all aspects of distilling, warehousing and brands operations working closely with the various teams on site and externally.
Make an Impact
- Lead the operational team to safely and compliantly deliver Glenrothes new make spirit (NMS) targets
- Support strategic distillation initiatives, continuous improvement, and optimal asset utilisation
- Oversee production schedules, shift recipes, and plant maintenance needs
- Manage strategic trials to enhance NMS quality, yield, and resource efficiency (energy, water, chemicals)
- Drive sustainability efforts in line with Edrington’s agenda, focusing on waste reduction and environmental compliance
- Ensure adherence to company management systems (HMRC, H&S, Environmental, Quality, FEMAS, HACCP)
- Promote best practices in health, safety, and environmental standards; conduct risk assessments and supervise contractors
- Facilitate operator training, competency tracking, and cross-functional collaboration with departments like Engineering, IT, and Warehousing
- Provide holiday cover for the Distillery Manager and act as Silver Incident Manager on a rota basis
- Handle stock control, purchase orders, data analysis, and troubleshooting
- Maintain high housekeeping standards and ensure site security
Your Talent And Skills
To be successful in this role, you have experience working in a warehouse and/or distillation production environment, with a strong awareness of health and safety supported by qualifications such as IOSH Managing Safely. You hold or are working towards a GCD or IBD Diploma in Distilling/ It would be advantageous if you’re trained in the management and control of Legionella. You bring internal auditing experience and are confident managing budgets. Your leadership skills are well-developed, with a proven ability to manage and motivate teams. You possess knowledge of Customs and Excise regulations, environmental compliance, and CoSHH. You’re proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and have experience in stock control. You’re comfortable adopting new technologies and using them effectively. You take initiative in organising daily production activities, making decisions that utilise your team’s strengths, and you’re capable of stepping in for the Distillery Manager when needed, particularly in safety or environmental matters. You’re a strong problem solver, able to respond to operational challenges with sound judgement. Your planning and organisational skills are excellent, and you pay close attention to detail. You’re confident leading team meetings and inspiring those around you
