Edison Smart are seeking an experienced Data Centre Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery of mission‑critical data centre projects across the UK. You will play a key role in ensuring electrical and mechanical systems are installed, tested, and commissioned to the highest standards, meeting client, regulatory, and operational requirements. This is a hands‑on, site‑based role working closely with project managers, contractors, and client teams during the commissioning and handover phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, manage, and execute commissioning activities for data centre projects (new build and/or live environments)
- Lead and witness commissioning of critical systems, including LV/HV electrical systems, UPS, generators, and power distribution, mechanical systems (cooling, chillers, CRAH/CRAC, BMS), and fire detection and suppression systems
- Develop and review commissioning plans, scripts, and method statements
- Coordinate commissioning activities with contractors, vendors, and client representatives
- Carry out integrated systems testing (IST) and site acceptance testing (SAT)
- Identify, manage, and close commissioning defects and snags
- Ensure compliance with UK regulations, health & safety standards, and industry best practice
- Produce detailed commissioning reports and handover documentation
- Support client handover and transition to operations teams
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience commissioning data centre or other mission‑critical facilities
- Strong understanding of electrical and/or mechanical building services
- Experience with integrated systems testing in live or critical environments
- Knowledge of UK standards and regulations (e.g., BS, HTM, HSG)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills
- Comfortable working on site and managing multiple stakeholders
