How you’ll contribute to our mission

You’ll manage the communications team and activity, including media relations, internal communications and corporate messaging. Collaborate across the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) to maximise audience engagement, brand visibility and commercial performance and strengthen our reputation as a global leader in conservation, science and community engagement.

Some of the things you’ll do:

  • Support the delivery of the marketing, communications and sales strategy aligned with RZSS’ mission and long-term goals
  • Lead on key aspects of the strategy, including reaching and engaging with new audiences
  • Support public affairs engagement
  • Plan, draft, edit and distribute press releases, media statements and briefing materials
  • Work with internal teams and external agencies to deliver integrated campaigns
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists and media outlets, influence opinion, establish RZSS as a credible and trusted voice as a leading wildlife conservation charity and mitigate the risk of negative publicity
  • Monitor sentiment across media channels and flag potential risks to senior colleagues
  • Design and deliver crisis response and reputational management protocols and training
  • Represent RZSS at sector forums (e.g., BIAZA, ASVA, ACE, ALVA)

What we’re looking for:

  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent experience in communications
  • Brand positioning and audience growth
  • Excellent editorial and writing skills, paying attention to detail and tailoring materials for specific audience
  • Stakeholder engagement and relationship-building
  • Planning and delivering communications campaigns
  • Managing multiple projects and deadlines

What you’ll get in return:

  • Starting pro-rated salary of £46,000 or £47,000 (offer based on experience) with future salary progression up to £51,000 per annum
  • 37.5hr working week (may require some weekend working/on call)
