An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a successful, growing national retail business headquartered in Carlisle. As an integral part of the Finance team you will play a key role in management accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and analysis, investment appraisal, performance review and ad‑hoc projects.
Responsibilities
- Management accounting
- Ensure that day to day accounting is carried out in a timely and efficient manner
- Prepare monthly management accounts incorporating a P&L, cash flow and balance sheet, with supporting analysis and reconciliations
- Carry out variance analysis and provide insightful commentary thereon
- Track KPIs to monitor business performance
- Assist with the preparation of board and management reports
- Develop dashboards and reports to facilitate commercial and strategic decision making
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Assist with the annual budget preparation and periodic reforecasting
- Monitor actual versus budget performance, understand and communicate variances
- Identify and highlight key trends and risks to support strategic planning
- Business partnering
- Work closely with operational teams to review performance, provide financial insights and improve financial understanding across the business
- Present financial data and analysis in an understandable and actionable manner
- Appraise proposals for new stores and lease renewals on existing stores
- Assess return on investment of marketing and website expenditure
- Cost control and process improvement
- Continuously review the management accounting procedures to identify and implement process automation and efficiencies in day to day accounting
- Review and ensure the timely and correct implementation of internal controls to reduce the risk of fraud and errors
- Month and year end processes
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of month end procedures including balance sheet reconciliations
- Support the external audit process, liaising with auditors and preparing comprehensive documentation
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- Recently qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
- Strong technical accounting skills, familiarity with UK GAAP and in particular FRS 102/IFRS 16 lease accounting requirements
- Advanced Excel skills
