The Property & Facilities department at Edinburgh Napier University brings together expertise across a range of essential areas, including estate management, sustainability, facilities services, security, cleaning, logistics, print, catering, conference management, and student accommodation.
The Role
As Security and Safety Assistant, you will have the opportunity to use your experience of working in a customer focused environment and your approachable, personal manner to support and direct students, staff and visitors to the University campus as appropriate, whilst also ensuring a safe, first-class customer experience.
We expect that you will have a flexible approach with the ability to respond positively to a variety of situations as you open and close down buildings, hold keys and control access / egress as required, undertake regular patrols both inside and outside buildings, to note security hazards, report suspicious activity and prevent crime.
The role will also see you taking charge of general safety across campus, as you enforce University regulations concerning car parking and traffic management; Health & Safety; fire/hazards; use of library/computer suite facilities; security alarms; and data protection.
Further to this, you will receive suitable training (if you haven’t already done so) to ensure that you can act as a responsible and capable first responder to individuals who may require emergency care or advice.

What we will need from you
- Proven experience of working face-to-face with a diverse range of people in a supportive, disciplined environment.
- A flexible approach with the ability to respond positively and take responsibility in a variety of situations.
- Ability to contribute positively as part of a small team and on own initiative under lone working conditions.
- Ability to undertake security foot/mobile vehicle patrols.
- Current UK valid driving licence required to undertake mobile vehicle patrols across all campuses and accommodation sites using University transport.
- Satisfactory Disclosure Scotland certification at Police Act Disclosure level (or willingness to obtain one)

Salary
£24,479 - £26,093 p/a (depending on experience) plus 3.5% shift allowance and 311 hours of guaranteed overtime.
Contract
Permanent, Full Time, 12 hour shifts – 2 Day then 02 Night (4 on and 4 off) rota 7am -7pm. The University is unable to sponsor the employment of international workers in this role on the Skilled Worker visa route. International applicants will only be able to take up this role if they can demonstrate an alternative right to work in the UK.
