Edinburgh Napier University’s School of Health and Social Care is a vibrant community for over 3,400 students, approx. 120 staff and the only provider of midwifery, nursing (all fields of practice) and allied health education in Scotland. Our work aims to make a positive, real-world impact on health and social care practice for local, national, and international communities and our technical team includes experts in simulation technology to make learning as authentic as possible.
As part of our ongoing responsibility to support the delivery of clinical skills and simulated learning, we are currently hiring a Senior Technician to oversee the day-to-day technical operations of the simulation and clinical skills facilities, lead a team of technicians, and provide technical support to academic staff in relation to clinical skills and simulation equipment.
The Role
As Senior Technician in the Simulation and Clinical Skills Team, your expertise and knowledge will play a big part in how you support the academic delivery of clinical and simulation-based activities, including their setup, calibration, and operation. Your excellent team working skills and ability to effectively collaborate with academic staff will allow you to fully understand teaching requirements, enabling you to proactively coordinate and effectively organise and prepare all equipment, consumables and facilities for use in practical classes.
Your ability to be proactive, solution focused and responsive to changing situations will be beneficial as you organise setup, calibration, and operation of equipment as well as provide hands-on technical support during practical sessions, assessments, and research activities. Having organisational and team management skills will also be important, as you line manage and coordinate a team of technicians, which will include scheduling, task allocation, and professional development.
All of this will be underpinned by your excellent understanding of Health & Safety regulations and other legislative standards in a technical environment, ensuring all facilities are maintained in compliance with regulations and relevant legislative standards, taking a lead role in ensuring that risk assessments and safety protocols are up to date and consistently implemented.
This is an excellent opportunity for you as an experienced Healthcare Technician looking for the next step in your career. If you have the skills and experience, particularly in a Higher Education setting, then we would love to hear from you.
