About the Role
You will lead and support whole life carbon assessments across a range of building and infrastructure projects, providing clear, data-driven insights that influence design choices and project strategies.
Working closely with design teams and clients, you will translate complex carbon analysis into practical, actionable recommendations.
Your work will directly contribute to achieving net zero targets and advancing best practice in sustainable development.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver whole life carbon assessments for projects at concept, design, and construction stages, in line with relevant standards and guidance.
- Develop and maintain project-specific carbon models, scenarios, and benchmarks to inform design decisions and option appraisals.
- Interpret assessment results and present concise, evidence-based recommendations to internal teams and clients.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers to integrate carbon outcomes into wider sustainability strategies and design reports.
- Prepare clear technical documentation, including carbon assessment reports, summaries, and supporting analysis.
- Support the development and refinement of internal tools, templates, and processes for carbon assessment and reporting.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing within the team, including lessons learned, emerging standards, and best practice in whole life carbon.
- Key Requirements
- Proven experience delivering whole life carbon assessments on building or infrastructure projects.
- Strong proficiency with recognised whole life carbon tools and methodologies.
- Solid understanding of embodied and operational carbon, life cycle stages, and relevant industry standards.
- Ability to handle and analyse quantitative data, with strong attention to detail and quality.
- Experience working in a consultancy or client-facing environment, managing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical findings to non-specialists.
Desirable Skills
- Experience contributing to net zero carbon strategies or roadmaps for organisations or portfolios.
- Familiarity with life cycle assessment (LCA) software and databases.
- Knowledge of wider sustainability frameworks (e. g. BREEAM, LEED, NABERS, or similar).
- Experience working on hybrid or remote project teams across multiple locations.
Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant discipline such as Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
- Postgraduate qualification in sustainability, low carbon design, or a related area (preferred).
- Professional membership or working towards membership of a relevant body (e. g. IEMA, CIBSE, ICE, RICS) is an advantage.
