Reed Finance is working with a well established SME based in Cumbernauld to recruit a Company Accountant. The current Finance Director is planning to step into a part‑time role over the next 12 months so this role has been created with succession in mind. You'll work closely with them from day one, getting full exposure to the business while gradually stepping up into the position. This is a varied role where you'll take ownership of the day‑to‑day finance function. You'll be responsible for keeping the finance function running smoothly, from transactional elements through to month‑end and reporting. Over time, you'll become the key finance lead in the business.
Key responsibilities
- Managing the core finance processes including invoicing, ledgers, payments and reconciliations
- Taking ownership of the month‑end close, including accruals, prepayments, journals and reviewing the trial balance
- Completing monthly reconciliations across bank, stock, fixed assets and ledgers, ensuring everything ties back accurately
- Preparing VAT returns and maintaining strong financial controls
- Supporting payroll and overseeing sales and purchase ledger activity
- Maintaining the fixed asset register, stock reporting and intercompany accounting
- Assisting with year‑end accounts and liaising with external auditors
Experience required
- Previous experience in a varied, hands‑on finance role, ideally within an SME environment
- Open to qualified, part‑qualified accountants
- Strong time management skills
- Experience with Navision or Sage Payroll would be helpful
