London
We are working with an established hedge fund investment manager with over $1bn in AUM to hire a Research Analyst / Senior Research Analyst for its London investment team.
The firm focuses on identifying specialist and emerging hedge fund managers delivering uncorrelated returns. This is an opportunity to take ownership of manager research, work closely with senior investors and contribute directly to manager selection and portfolio construction within a small, collaborative team.
The successful candidate will also support the development of the firm’s separately managed account (SMA) platform, alongside its existing investments in commingled funds.
The role
- Lead manager sourcing across assigned strategies, developing relationships with hedge funds, prime brokers and other allocators.
- Conduct detailed investment due diligence, evaluating investment processes, sources of alpha, portfolio risks and performance.
- Prepare and present investment recommendations to the Investment Committee.
- Monitor existing investments through regular manager meetings and ongoing research.
- Contribute to portfolio construction, manager selection and position sizing discussions.
- Support manager assessment and selection for the firm’s developing SMA platform.
- Support and mentor junior analysts.
Coverage is expected to include macro, fixed income relative value, commodities and volatility, with flexibility to reflect the successful candidate’s expertise.
The ideal candidate
- Approximately 4-6 years of dedicated hedge fund research experience with an allocator, fund of funds, investment consultant or similar platform.
- Strong technical understanding of hedge fund strategies, particularly trading-oriented, relative value or other uncorrelated approaches.
- Experience assessing emerging managers and specialist strategies would be valuable.
- Experience researching, selecting or monitoring hedge fund managers through SMAs would be a distinct advantage.
- Strong analytical skills, sound investment judgement and the confidence to challenge investment ideas.
- Clear written and verbal communication, alongside a developing industry network.
- Eligibility to work in the UK and willingness to undertake international travel.
The opportunity would suit someone who enjoys detailed investment research and wants greater responsibility within a team where their work directly informs investment decisions.
