A leading strategic advisory firm is creating a new role for an AI Innovation Lead. This is the first hire of its kind in the business. You will set the direction for how AI is used, decide which problems to tackle, and work with a specialist Google Cloud consultancy who will build what you design.
The firm advises major organisations on public affairs, communications, policy and reputation. Teams track legislation, follow parliamentary activity, monitor media, and run complex client campaigns. The work is time-sensitive and detail-heavy, which makes it well suited to better tooling and smarter workflows.
The opportunity
- Be the point person for AI across the firm, reporting into senior leadership.
- Shape a programme that moves from isolated tools to a consistent way of working.
- Direct a Google Cloud delivery partner rather than building everything yourself.
- Work in a high-performing but supportive culture, with people who care about politics, current affairs and good work.
- You will have the space to design, test and implement changes that make a visible difference to how people work.
What you will do
- Build and run the firm’s AI and innovation plan, with a clear roadmap and priorities.
- Map how public affairs and communications teams work today and identify where better workflows or automation will help most.
- Define concrete use cases, from parliamentary monitoring and reporting to content drafting, research and headline generation, then brief these to the Google Cloud partner.
- Work closely with the external team to make sure what they build fits the business, is robust, and can be adopted.
- Help colleagues at different levels of confidence get value from the tools, through training, guidance and day‑to‑day support.
- Contribute to sensible internal guidelines and, over time, a formal policy on AI use.
What you bring
- Strong track record delivering AI, automation or workflow improvement projects in a business environment.
- Solid experience with Google Gemini / Google AI. This is essential.
- Ability to work with external technical partners, give clear direction, and challenge decisions where needed.
- Confidence talking to non-technical stakeholders, understanding how they work, and turning that into clear problem statements.
- A straightforward, collaborative style. You ask questions, listen, and work well with busy teams.
- No prior experience in public affairs or communications is required. An interest in politics is helpful but not a requirement.
Why this will appeal
If you want to be accountable for how a business uses AI, rather than one contributor in a large central function, this will suit you. You will have direct input into what gets built, close access to decision-makers, and clear line of sight from idea to impact.
