We’re on the hunt for an experienced, hands-on Academy Manager to lead our Construction Skills Academy. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established main contractor with a turnover of around £200m, operating across both the public and private sectors. If you’re passionate about developing people, running smooth operations, and helping shape the next generation of construction talent, this role could be perfect for you.

As Academy Manager, you’ll be at the heart of our training operation. You’ll oversee the day-to-day running of the Academy, manage delivery staff, ensure compliance with industry and funding standards, and help develop training programmes that meet the evolving needs of the construction sector. Your role will also involve working closely with employers, stakeholders, and funding bodies to grow the Academy and strengthen its reputation across the industry.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Curriculum & Training Development
  • Design and implement training programmes aligned with sector trends and employer needs.
  • Keep the curriculum current, high-quality, and linked to recognised qualifications.
  • Monitor learner progression and course effectiveness, using feedback and performance data to continuously improve.
  • Promote the Academy’s offer to attract new learners and employer partners.
  • People & Operational Management
    • Lead and support a training administrator and external delivery partners.
    • Oversee daily operations, including scheduling, resource planning, and logistics.
    • Maintain and enforce quality assurance and compliance standards in line with industry and legislative requirements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Build and sustain strong relationships with construction employers, training partners, and industry bodies.
    • Act as the main point of contact for learners, employers, and external stakeholders.
    • Gather and act on feedback to improve delivery and learner outcomes.
  • Business Development, Finance & Funding
    • Manage the Academy’s budget and monitor financial performance.
    • Identify and pursue opportunities to grow the Academy and its offer.
    • Leverage external funding streams, such as apprenticeships, NVQs, and grants.
    • Develop strategic partnerships with local authorities, contractors, and funding bodies to drive growth.

    Who we’re looking for:

    • Degree or equivalent experience in a construction-related field.
    • A1 Assessor Qualification or Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET).
    • Strong knowledge of construction practices and vocational qualifications.
    • Understanding of education funding streams and compliance requirements.
    • Organised, proactive, and passionate about developing people in construction.
