We are recruiting for a Senior Design Manager for a major project based in Birmingham. This role focuses strongly on civil, structural, substructure and superstructure design packages, with wider design responsibility developing as the project progresses.
Role Overview
You will take a leading role in managing and coordinating complex multi-disciplinary design delivery from RIBA Stage 3 through construction. Working closely with internal teams, consultants, and specialist subcontractors, you’ll ensure design information is fully coordinated, compliant, buildable, and aligned with programme, cost and project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the management and delivery of design information in line with agreed programmes and deliverables
- Oversee and interrogate consultant outputs to ensure compliance with brief, standards and contractual requirements
- Drive design development from pre-construction through construction stages
- Produce and manage design programmes, scopes, responsibility matrices, appointments and deliverable schedules
- Chair and coordinate design workshops, technical reviews and stakeholder meetings
- Manage BIM, CDE and design management processes across the project
- Identify and manage design risk, interfaces, change control and value engineering opportunities
- Support technical resolution of civil/structural and wider building design challenges
- Ensure timely approval and coordination of reviewable design data
Requirements
- 8+ years’ experience in Design Management with a Tier 1 contractor (UK)
- Degree qualified in a construction-related discipline
- Chartered status (MCIOB, MICE or equivalent)
- Proven experience delivering mid-to-large scale complex projects
- Strong technical background in civil/structural design (substructure and superstructure essential)
- Experience with façade systems and specialist subcontract design coordination advantageous
- Strong stakeholder management, coordination and programme leadership skills
