I'm representing a growing contractor in Civil Engineering. They specialise in Civils projects up to and around the £50million mark. Typical projects include roads, sewers, drainage, infrastructure, bridges, structures and car parks. With business expansion, they are strengthening the Health & Safety team to ensure the highest standards of compliance and safety across operations. I'm seeking a proactive Health & Safety Advisor to support teams in maintaining a strong safety culture across the business. This role will focus heavily on 'on-site visibility,' conducting audits and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and company policies. The successful candidate will also play a key role in supporting continuation of ISO accreditations (45001, 9001, and 14001) and other industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct site audits and inspections across South Western operations to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Provide on-site support and guidance to site teams, promoting a strong safety culture.
- Assist in the development, review, and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures.
- Support the ISO 45001, 9001, and 14001 accreditations and help maintain compliance with other relevant industry standards.
- Support investigations incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending improvements.
- Deliver toolbox talks, training, and briefings to employees and contractors.
- Ensure compliance with relevant HSE regulations, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Assist in preparing safety reports and statistics for senior management.
- Keep up to date with legislative changes and best practices in health and safety.
Key requirements:
- Formal health and safety qualification (NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent).
- Experience conducting site audits and inspections in a construction, utilities, or engineering environment.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel frequently across the UK.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with staff at all levels.
- Proactive, hands-on approach with a passion for improving workplace safety.
Desirable:
- Experience working with ISO 45001, 9001, and 14001 accreditation requirements.
- Membership of a professional body (e.g., IOSH).
