Edge Careers are working on behalf of a client to recruit an experienced SHE Manager for a well-established Groundworks & Civils Contractor. This role is responsible for overseeing the Oxfordshire region, covering Basingstoke, Oxford and up to Banbury. The successful candidate will oversee multiple live projects across the area while managing a team of Safety Advisors. This is a site-based role requiring regular travel within approximately a 90-minute radius of the region. We are keen to speak with Health & Safety professionals who have experience within the Construction sector. Previous experience within Groundworks & Civils would be advantageous but is not essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote safe working practices across the region and monitor compliance with current legislation.
- Manage Safety Advisors within the region, undertaking joint site visits while providing advice, guidance, support, development and CPD reviews.
- Review documentation and provide guidance where required.
- Analyse data from management systems and investigation reports to identify trends, areas of concern and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and manage the regional risk management system.
- Promote health and safety awareness and responsibilities throughout the region.
- Lead on Principal Contractor projects, providing guidance on legislative and company compliance requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist with identifying regional training needs, liaising with the Health & Safety Admin Manager.
- Deliver Health & Safety presentations and training where required.
- Develop the knowledge and competence of regional staff regarding company Health & Safety requirements.
- Embed a consistent safety-first culture across all projects.
- Lead serious accident investigations and implement appropriate follow-up actions.
- Review investigation reports with the company SHE Manager.
- Liaise with statutory bodies, legal advisors and insurers when required.
- Review client procedures, ensuring they are documented, communicated and implemented appropriately.
- Represent the company at site meetings, audits, investigations and external briefings.
- Monitor, audit and promote safe working practices among subcontractors.
Requirements
- Degree in Health & Safety and/or relevant Health & Safety qualifications including NEBOSH or equivalent.
- Experience working as a Safety Advisor or Manager within Groundworks, Civils or Construction.
- Experience creating safety policies, RAMS and CPPs.
- Experience conducting compliance audits and advisory visits.
- Strong knowledge of relevant statutory regulations.
- Understanding of plant and equipment used on construction sites, including application and maintenance.
- Knowledge of construction methods within Civils and Housing sectors.
- High level of competency in policy creation and interpretation.
- Excellent IT, communication and reporting skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Experience developing and mentoring Health & Safety Advisors.
- Full clean driving licence.
