Working closely with the Conference & Banqueting Manager, you will play a key role in leading our busy Conference & Banqueting operation, delivering conferences, meetings, dinners, weddings and special events across our four buildings. You will support the day-to-day management of the department and take full operational responsibility in the Conference & Banqueting Manager's absence, ensuring events run smoothly, the team is effectively managed and our guests receive consistently high standards of service.
We are looking for someone who leads by example, plans ahead, takes ownership and has the confidence to make decisions while supporting and developing the team.
What you'll be doing:
- Supporting the Conference & Banqueting Manager with the daily management, organisation and performance of the department.
- Taking full responsibility for the C&B operation in the Manager's absence, including staffing, service delivery, operational decisions and resolving issues.
- Planning and overseeing conferences, meetings, weddings, private dining and events to ensure they are delivered to an exceptional standard.
- Reviewing upcoming events, function sheets, staffing requirements, room layouts and equipment to ensure everything is planned and prepared in advance.
- Leading daily briefings, delegating responsibilities and ensuring the team understands event requirements and service expectations.
- Maintaining a visible, hands-on presence throughout service, leading by example and supporting the team during busy periods.
- Working closely with the Conference & Events, Kitchen and wider hotel teams to ensure effective communication and seamless event delivery.
- Supporting rota planning, staffing levels and payroll control in line with business requirements and budgets.
- Coaching, training and developing supervisors and team members, encouraging accountability and consistently high standards.
- Monitoring guest feedback, resolving complaints professionally and implementing improvements to the guest experience.
- Ensuring conference rooms, event spaces and audiovisual equipment are checked, maintained and ready ahead of guest arrival.
- Maintaining high standards of food safety, allergen management, health and safety, hygiene and cleanliness.
- Identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency, control costs and maximise departmental revenue.
- Ensuring hotel procedures, including cash handling, stock control and incident reporting, are consistently followed.
- Taking ownership of operational challenges, making confident decisions and ensuring actions are followed through.
- Undertaking early, late and duty management shifts as required.
About You:
You will have previous supervisory or assistant management experience within hospitality, ideally within a busy hotel, conference and banqueting or events environment. You will be a confident, organised and proactive leader who is comfortable managing a busy operation independently and supporting a team to deliver excellent results.
You should demonstrate:
- Strong leadership experience, with the confidence to independently manage a department and make operational decisions.
- Excellent organisational and forward-planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple events and changing priorities.
- Experience in managing, motivating, coaching and developing a team.
- A proactive approach, taking ownership of responsibilities and following through on actions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure, solve problems and make decisions confidently.
- A passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences and maintaining high operational standards.
- Good commercial awareness, including staffing, payroll and cost control.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
Experience with audiovisual equipment, conference operations and event planning would be advantageous. Above all, we are looking for someone who can confidently lead the department, support the Conference & Banqueting Manager and take full ownership of the operation when required.
