Job Description:
- Department: Gas Trading
- Position purpose: Develop profitable trading strategies and assist with managing the executions of those positions. Work with the Head of Trading to identify growth opportunities for the business. Work in partnership with other departments, affiliates, and EDF group companies providing support as required. Use a professional approach at all times while carrying out responsibilities setting high standards.
Main responsibilities:
- Strategy Development and Implementation: Assist in the development of the Gas Trading strategy. Help identify and develop the medium and long term business plan. Help identify structured opportunities and participate in closing those transactions when necessary. Work closely with the Origination team to help guide their efforts to provide opportunities that are aligned with trading ideas.
- Trading: Execute the Gas Trading Strategies in consultation with the Head of Gas Trading, this includes risk management, VAR utilization, and position management. Identify, define, backtest and implement trading strategies in a fast route to market approach. Develop and maintain various analytical tools to help identify strategies and their implementations. Pro-actively interact with gas analyst teams to identify trading opportunities daily. Actively participate in daily and weekly trading meetings for the team for the purpose of sharing ideas and aid in coordinating trading activities. Participate when necessary in other EDFT trading meetings to facilitate cross commodity opportunities. Assist with maximizing trading asset performance.
- Origination: Support origination strategy for Europe in conjunction with Origination department. Assist with processes to maintain effective coordination between trading and origination.
- Commercial Management: Assist with the processes necessary to support the day-to-day management of the gas trading business. Provide commercial solutions for EDF group and co-controlled entities consistent with maximising value for the EDF Group. Work with the 24 hour operations team to increase commercial knowledge and out of hours trading opportunities.
This role is subject to the Front Office Supervision Procedures and you are required to adhere to them at all times and attest that you have read and understood them on an annual basis.
Experience required:
- Several years of gas trading with positive outturn or 8 years+ of experience as gas trading strategist/analyst
- Experience of proprietary trading is valuable
- Deep knowledge and quantitative experience of the gas fundamentals especially on UK and European location and time spread
- Strong understanding of effective risk management knowledge
- Experience of optimising Storage, Swing and Cross Border Capacity would be beneficial
- Solid quantitative and coding knowledge
- Motivated, business oriented person
- Strong communication and analytical skills
- Appetite to learn and develop within the EDFT structure
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment
