The HPC Jobs Service supports local people into exciting, long-term careers across our Project. Opportunity for a Welder Cat B working with ENKA UK on the Hinkley Point C Project.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Experience in welding Carbon Steel.
  • Weld or Tack-weld components and assemblies pressure parts, tubes, pipes, plates, supports vessels or structural works by manual welding.
  • Follow established job-site safety and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work area.
  • Perform welding in accordance with operation parameters in WPS.
  • Detect faulty operation of equipment and/or defective materials, and notify supervisors.
  • Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding techniques.
  • Awareness and working by following the STAR strategy; Stop, Think, Act and Review.
  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind and/or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
  • Perform visual inspection during the welding operation.
  • Advise on any necessary adjustments at the scaffolding to the welding supervisor.
  • Ensure that a "zero harm" approach is taken in relation to all acts and omissions in relation to the services and the project.
  • Acknowledge that due to the nature of the project, nuclear safety and security are of paramount importance.
  • Comply with any rule, instruction or requirement of the Company in relation to the services which the company determines is necessary in order for the company to comply with obligations under the nuclear site license.
  • Housekeeping of the work areas; collection, segregation and disposal of wastes as required; removal of unused materials and clear the work floors to eliminate/reduce slipping or tripping risks in your work area.
  • Safe use, protection, storage and care of general maintenance products, hand and power tools.

You must:

  • Take care of your own health and safety and that of people who may be affected by what you do (or do not do).
  • Co-operate with others on health and safety, and not interfere with, or misuse, anything provided for your health, safety or welfare.
  • Follow the training you have received when using any work items your employer has given you.

Required Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Level 2 Welding Apprenticeship, or an equivalent Apprenticeship in a Welding discipline, or Level 2 Diploma in a Welding discipline or equivalent, or Level 2 Certificate in Welding and Engineering Craft Studies.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Welder in a relevant industry.
  • Shall be able to pass the welder qualification tests or have BS EN ISO 9606 Coded Welding Qualification in the related works.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in large scale, industrial projects.
  • Knowledge of various welding codes, specifications, techniques and methods.
  • Knowledge of the properties of metal, bevelling, machining, weld shrinkage and welding techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience of common welding processes such as; TIG, MMA, TIG+MMA.
  • Shall be able to pass the welder qualification tests according to ISO 9606-1.
  • Shall be able to weld in CS in related dimensions and schedule for piping.
  • Shall be able to weld in H-L045 position for piping.
  • Can achieve Security Clearance (BPSS).
  • Hold or can achieve CCNSG Safety Passport.
  • Willing to learn and can achieve necessary safety or occupational training.
  • Prove of English Level (CEFR) B1 preferably.
  • Able to pass test of satisfaction of the employer within the appropriate design and safety standards, where to work does not require a test to be passed in accordance with the ISO 9606-1.
