About the Role
Ready to shape better outcomes for people while helping leaders do the right thing? Motivated by supporting others through complex moments and building trusted relationships across a business? At EDF, Success is Personal, and this role lets you put people first while building a career that works for you.
The Opportunity
As a People Consultant, you’ll be a trusted partner to leaders and managers, coaching them through complex employee relations matters and day‑to‑day people practices. Your work will support EDF’s journey towards An Electric Britain by creating positive, consistent and human people experiences across the business. Reporting into our Senior People Partner and working alongside two People Partners, you’ll also collaborate closely with other People Consultants, centres of excellence and shared services to deliver joined‑up, consistent outcomes.
The role will involve working with our Business and Wholesale teams (c.900 employees onshore), within our Customers business, who operate at the intersection of energy markets, assets, and customers. More than a supplier, our Business & Wholesale teams are an integrated partner helping organisations navigate the full energy landscape with resilient, optimised, and future‑focused solutions. It’s a complex, fast‑moving environment where the right people, skills and ways of working are critical.
In this role, you’ll proactively manage a varied and often complex ER caseload, advising and influencing stakeholders across a broad range of seniority. You’ll build deep knowledge of the areas you support, work closely with colleagues across the People function and help create a culture where leaders feel confident, supported and accountable for their people decisions as we move towards An Electric Britain.
Who You Are
We’re looking for an experienced People Consultant who brings sound judgement, empathy and commercial awareness. You’re confident coaching and influencing leaders from Directors through to Team Managers, shaping fair and pragmatic outcomes, and applying policy and collective agreements while keeping a people first mindset.
To be shortlisted, you need to offer:
- Significant experience in an Employee Relations, Generalist or HR Advisor role, managing a varied ER caseload with volume and complexity (including formal processes)
- Strong coaching capability and confidence advising senior stakeholders, working creatively within company policies and collective agreements
- Demonstrated experience embedding a people first approach when advising leaders on people decisions
- Ability to influence and challenge leaders constructively to achieve outcomes that balance people and business needs
- Experience building trusted relationships and becoming a credible partner within a supported business area
- Commercial awareness, understanding how people decisions contribute to wider organisational success
- Good judgement in selecting the right interventions, using data, trends and feedback to inform decisions and turn insight into practical actions and recommendations
- A proactive approach, with the confidence to challenge the status quo and suggest better ways of working
- Ideally, experience partnering with Trade Unions.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Acting as the first point of contact for people management and employee relations matters
- Coaching and supporting leaders to handle performance, conduct and absence confidently
- Building strong relationships to understand business needs and tailor people support
- Using insight and case trends to recommend proactive interventions and improvements
- Working closely with People and ER colleagues to deliver consistent and effective outcomes
Pay, Benefits and Culture
This is a hybrid role, based from our Exeter, Gadeon House office, where you’ll be in the office on a fortnightly basis, with the flexibility to work from home the remaining time. You are of course very welcome to work from our office much more frequently too! Additional travel may be required as and when necessary, including to our London office at Victoria.
Alongside a salary starting from £45,760 per annum (depending on skills and experience), potential for an annual bonus and a market leading pension scheme, your package will include flexible benefit options such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days and more.
