The Opportunity
This DevOps Engineer Apprenticeship offers a starting salary of £25,139, alongside the training, development and support to help you complete a Level 4 DevOps Engineer Apprenticeship with QA. Across this multi‑year apprenticeship, you’ll rotate through our AWS or Azure Cloud Platform teams and the DevOps Platform team, learning how to operate large‑scale cloud platforms used across EDF. You’ll work closely with Technical Leads, Product Owners and engineering partners within Nuclear IT Services, gaining hands‑on experience in a fast‑evolving digital environment. Your learning experience is delivered virtually through QA — including online tutorials, project work, labs, and peer learning. You’ll build specialist knowledge in cloud operations, DevOps practices, and platform engineering, all while contributing to our mission to support the UK’s transition towards An Electric Britain.
Your Work Location
You’ll be classified as a remote worker, ideally based in the South West, with occasional travel required to EDF offices in Gloucester and Heysham. Your training and development will be delivered virtually by QA, giving you flexibility to learn while gaining on‑the‑job experience. Throughout the scheme, you’ll engage with Nuclear IT Services teams across the UK, building relationships with colleagues, technical mentors and platform engineering specialists who will guide your progression.
What You’ll Experience
- Operating and supporting EDF’s AWS or Azure cloud platforms at scale.
- Learning core DevOps practices and contributing to platform reliability through SLIs and SLOs.
- Working alongside Technical Leads and Product Owners in a complex, high‑change IT environment.
- Hands‑on exposure to digital tooling, automation, and modern engineering approaches.
- Virtual training with QA, including tutorials, project work, and applied learning labs.
- Contributing to IT services that support the UK’s shift to a zero‑carbon energy system.
Who You Are
To be eligible for this EDF apprenticeship programme, you need to have:
- Five GCSEs at grades A*–C / 9–4 including English & Maths and a Level 3 Software Apprenticeship OR
- A STEM A‑Level plus successful completion of QA’s Aptitude Test OR
- A BTEC Diploma in IT plus successful completion of QA’s Aptitude Test OR
- Two years’ relevant work experience plus successful completion of QA’s Aptitude Test.

Security Vetting
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the requirements for Security Check SC Clearance, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 5 of the last 10 years.
