The Opportunity
As a Layout Tools and Methods Expert, you'll play a critical role in strengthening the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of layout design across major nuclear newbuild programmes, directly supporting the journey towards An Electric Britain. Your expertise will influence how layout tools, CAD standards, and methodologies are defined, applied, and continuously improved, helping ensure safe, efficient and high-quality delivery across complex nuclear island projects. EDF EPR Engineering UK delivers the design for nuclear island buildings, systems, and equipment for Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C projects. Working as part of an integrated team, EPR Engineering supports construction and commissioning while preparing design-replication feasibility and related engineering activities.
You'll join us on a salary of 65,000-70,000 per annum (dependent on experience). This role is based at Aztec West in Bristol, with regular collaboration on site and occasional travel to other UK locations and France to engage with international teams and stakeholders.
Working within the EPRE Layout discipline, you'll be a recognised technical authority for layout tools and methods, developing and delivering CAD training, advising on best practice, and supporting high-quality 1D, 2D and 3D design delivery. You'll contribute to replication strategies for future projects, mentor teams across the UK and Europe, and play a visible part in maintaining nuclear professionalism, safety, and engineering excellence on projects that will provide reliable low-carbon power for decades.
Who You Are
We're looking for an experienced Layout Tools and Methods Expert who brings confidence, technical depth, and a structured approach to complex design environments. To be shortlisted, you need to offer:
- Established experience in design and/or layout activities within large industrial projects (such as civil, layout, piping, HVAC or electrical disciplines)
- In-depth knowledge of general layout rules and principles for major industrial projects
- Advanced, hands-on expertise in AVEVA E3D, PDMS and Navisworks
- Fluency in English, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and lead technical discussions
- Proven experience supporting, assuring, and improving the quality of 1D, 2D and 3D design activities across multiple teams
- Experience advising on standards, processes, methodologies and tools, and supporting the resolution of cross-discipline issues related to CAD and model quality
What You'll Be Doing
- Developing, maintaining, and delivering Layout CAD training and knowledge-sharing activities
- Develop or optimize in-house 3D tools in adequation with the needs of the teams to support collective efficiency
- Acting as a technical authority on layout tools, methods, standards and best practice
- Supporting and assuring the quality of 1D, 2D and 3D layout design across projects
- Providing insights on risks, issues, and improvements related to 3D model quality and maintenance
- Collaborating with UK and international stakeholders, contractors, and partner organisations to support consistent delivery
