As a Senior Data Engineer within the Finance Data Squad, you'll lead the delivery of data products that underpin key financial systems and insights. Your work will directly support business performance, contributing to our journey towards An Electric Britain.

Alongside a competitive salary and potential for an annual bonus, this role is flexible with occasional travel to our Exeter or London offices. You'll benefit from a hybrid approach that supports both focused work and collaborative team engagement.

You’ll take a lead role in engineering delivery, shaping best practice across DevOps, data engineering, and agile ways of working. From mentoring engineers to driving quality and innovation, you’ll help build scalable solutions that deliver real commercial value.

Who You Are

As a Senior Data Engineer (FDS), you're a confident technical leader who combines strong engineering expertise with the ability to guide teams and influence outcomes. You focus on delivery, take ownership, and communicate clearly. To be shortlisted, you need to offer:

  • Experience leading small to medium sized engineering teams within agile delivery environments
  • Strong expertise in at least one server-side language such as Python, Java, Kotlin or NodeJS
  • Knowledge of serverless, event-driven, and loosely coupled architectures
  • Experience designing and integrating REST APIs and third-party services
  • Commercial experience working with React or React Native and state management libraries
  • Strong experience with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, GitHub or Terraform
  • Experience applying test-driven development or behaviour-driven development practices
  • Proven experience working within the energy industry
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading the day-to-day engineering capability within the Finance Data Squad
  • Delivering scalable data products and software components aligned to business priorities
  • Driving quality through code reviews, testing practices, and engineering standards
  • Mentoring and developing engineers to build capability and performance
  • Collaborating with product owners, architects, and stakeholders to deliver value-focused solutions
