About the Role

Are you an engineer who thrives on solving complex problems, improving system performance, and working with critical infrastructure? Are you looking for a role where your expertise directly contributes to the safe, reliable, low-carbon generation of electricity for millions of homes? We’re recruiting System Health Engineers across several engineering disciplines to join our Engineering Department at Torness Power Station. Whether you’re experienced in the nuclear sector or looking to bring your engineering skillset into a new, highly regulated environment, we want to hear from you.

What is a System Health Engineer?

A System Health Engineer acts as the technical owner of one or more plant systems (e.g., pumps, valves, control systems, instrumentation, or mechanical assemblies). Your mission is simple but vital: Keep the plant healthy, reliable, and performing safely. You will monitor system performance, diagnose emerging issues, drive improvements, and help prevent failures before they happen.

We Are Hiring Across Multiple Engineering Specialisms

  • Mechanical Engineers: For those with experience in rotating machinery, pressure systems, pumps, heat exchangers, HVAC, or similar industrial mechanical systems.
  • Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineers: Ideal for engineers familiar with electrical distribution, control systems, sensors, PLCs, protection systems, or industrial instrumentation.
  • Design & Safety Case Engineers: For candidates skilled in engineering design, safety assessments, hazard analysis, or regulatory justification work.

In this role, you will act as the technical conscience for key plant systems, closely monitoring performance and health indicators to spot and address emerging issues. You’ll lead investigations into equipment failures and develop medium to long-term corrective actions, helping to improve equipment reliability and strengthen predictive maintenance activities. Working collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, and Technical teams, you’ll contribute to safe and efficient plant performance while supporting the planning of maintenance, modifications, and long-term asset strategies. You’ll also produce clear engineering documentation and recommendations that play an important role in maintaining regulatory compliance.

What We’re Looking For

You don’t need nuclear experience - full training will be provided - but we are looking for someone with a degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical, Electrical, EC&I, or a related engineering discipline. Experience in a technical, industrial, manufacturing, energy, defence, rail, aviation, or petrochemical environment would be valuable. You’ll bring strong problem-solving skills, a methodical and analytical mindset, and the ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences. Just as importantly, you’ll be willing to take ownership of plant systems and proactively drive improvements. If you’re looking for a role where your engineering expertise will genuinely make a difference - to plant performance, national infrastructure, and the UK’s low-carbon future - we’d love to hear from you.

Pay, Benefits and Culture

The salary range associated with this role is between £45,641 - £95,993; however, the starting salary will be within the range of £45,641 - £81,263, allowing room for career advancement. This is a full-time, site-based position.
