The Opportunity

Our Health Physics Monitor Apprenticeship offers a starting salary of £25,139 and the chance to achieve a Level 2 qualification in Radiation Protection. This two-year programme combines practical learning with academic study. You will develop skills to monitor radiation and contamination, interpret results, and provide safety advice to operators – ensuring safe operations in nuclear facilities.

You will train at the National College for Nuclear in Somerset during a two-week classroom block in Year 1, supported by remote learning through BlackBoard. This radiation protection apprenticeship gives you hands-on experience and industry-recognised qualifications to start your career in nuclear safety. It is all part of EDF's mission to drive the transition towards An Electric Britain.

Your Work Location

You will work with Radiological Protection teams at Hinkley Point C, with placements at other locations, alongside a two-week period spent at college.

Who You Are

To be eligible for this EDF apprenticeship programme, you need five GCSEs at Grade C or above (or Grade 4 and above), including English and Maths, or a relevant Level 2 qualification. This role involves tasks that require compliance with health and safety regulations. Therefore, candidates must be at least 18 years old by the start date of the apprenticeship.

Our Assessment Centre will take place at the National College for Nuclear, Cannington on Wednesday 8th April.

You are self-motivated, eager to learn, and able to balance study with work. You will have strong attention to detail and a positive attitude towards health, safety and quality.

Security Vetting

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will ordinarily require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the last five years.
