The SZC Digital & IT directorate sits within the PMO Unit which in turn sits within the overall delivery department. Digital & IT is accountable for providing Enterprise IT infrastructure and application to the business and to a subset of Tier 1 contract partners. The Digital Delivery function is one of four functions reporting into the Digital Director and delivers the digital programmes and projects for the SZC Nuclear New Build programme.
Your role as Assistant Portfolio Accountant will be to support the Portfolio Accountant in the day-to-day financial management of the Sizewell C Digital & IT Portfolio. You’ll help maintain accurate financial records, support budgeting and forecasting activity, track project costs, and provide clear information to project teams and finance stakeholders. Principal Accountabilities
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes for the Sizewell C Digital & IT Portfolio, including annual forecast submissions and in-year updates.
- Help maintain portfolio financial trackers, ensuring project costs, forecasts, commitments and movements are recorded accurately and consistently.
- Support monthly cost reviews with Project Managers, Business Analysts and other stakeholders, helping to explain variances between actuals, forecasts and approved budgets.
- Assist with the preparation of reporting packs and financial summaries for portfolio governance forums and senior stakeholder reviews.
- Support month-end activities, including accruals, recharges, purchase order reviews and cost substantiation.
- Work with project teams to improve the quality of forecast information, challenge assumptions where appropriate, and highlight risks or issues early.
- Help reconcile portfolio reporting outputs to SAP and other finance systems, supporting a single, reliable view of financial performance.
- Contribute to investment case reviews, cost analysis and project deep dives under the guidance of the Portfolio Accountant.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, templates and financial controls across the portfolio.
- Carry out ad hoc analysis and support wider finance activities as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Part-qualified accountant, studying towards CIMA, ACCA or ACA, or qualified by relevant experience.
- Good Excel skills, with the ability to analyse, reconcile and present financial information clearly.
- Experience working with finance systems such as SAP, Anaplan or similar tools would be beneficial.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, reliable work.
- Clear communication skills, with the confidence to work with finance and non-finance colleagues.
- Ability to organise workload, manage competing priorities and deliver to deadlines.
- A proactive approach, with curiosity to understand project performance and improve ways of working.
- Interest in working on a major infrastructure programme within a regulated environment.
- Excellent Stakeholder management.
Desirable
- Experience in project finance, management accounting, project controls, PMO or cost reporting.
- Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, accruals, purchase orders or financial reporting processes.
- Previous experience in infrastructure, energy, digital, construction, regulated or safety-critical environments.
