About The Role

At EDF, we’re helping Britain achieve Net Zero. Our Business & Wholesale Services (BWS) team plays a key role—bringing together energy trading, data, and commercial expertise to power the transition. Our Trading team sits at the heart of market activity. We optimise EDF’s position in the UK power markets in real time—balancing risk, maximising value, and responding to fast‑moving market dynamics. We’re now building a new capability that brings data science and trading closer together. This role is your chance to help shape it from the ground up.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Build and improve quantitative models and forecasting tools for power markets
  • Develop, test, and implement algorithmic trading strategies for both proprietary and asset‑backed trading
  • Work closely with traders, engineers and analysts to bring ideas into production
  • Support and enhance real‑time trading decisions
  • Help grow data and quantitative capability across the team

This is a hands‑on role where you’ll see the direct impact of your work in live markets.

Who You Are

We’re open to different backgrounds. You might be a trader building your data science skills, a data scientist or quant who wants more P&L ownership, or someone who already combines both. What matters most is your willingness to learn and apply your skills in a fast‑moving trading environment. To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Proficiency in python
  • Strong applied skills in statistics, machine learning, and optimisation methodologies
  • Experience developing production systems in a trading environment
  • Knowledge of UK or European power markets including market structure and fundamental drivers
  • Commercial drive, with a desire to own risk and make pragmatic decisions under pressure
  • Ability to lead projects and mentor junior team members

Pay, Benefits And Culture

The role is location‑flexible and can be carried out remotely. Most of the wider team is based in our London office, with many attending the office around two or three days per week. You must be willing to travel to our London office as and when required. Alongside a competitive salary, potential for an annual bonus, and a market‑leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days and more.

Everyone is welcome at EDF; we’re committed to building a workforce that reflects gender balance, social mobility and inclusion of minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities and those with disabilities. As a Disability Confident employer, we will support applicants requiring adjustments.
