As a DCO Construction Works Package Manager at EDF Power Solutions, you will lead the delivery of the 400kV substation and cable route package for the Longfield project, a 400MW PV and 300MW BESS plant. Your responsibilities include managing contractor performance, coordinating interfaces, ensuring safety and quality compliance, and reporting progress to the Senior Construction Project Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead safe, coordinated and effective delivery of the Project Substation Contract and associated 400kV cable route works, including 400kV and 33kV systems and interface with the NGET network.
- Act as the primary package delivery lead during construction and commissioning, managing contractor engagement, site execution oversight, programme delivery, interface management and commercial support.
- Maintain contract management, progress reporting, risk and issue tracking, and ensure adherence to contractual, DCO and project requirements.
- Manage package‑level interfaces with NGET works, PV and BESS delivery packages, cable route works, and commissioning activities.
- Work closely with Engineering disciplines and the Engineering Manager on technical reviews, design coordination, grid and NGET interface coordination, constructability reviews, commissioning readiness and engineering assurance.
- Collaborate with the Quality team to implement package quality requirements, conduct surveillance and inspection activities, escalate quality issues and monitor contractor quality performance.
- Work in conjunction with the H&S team to implement the Client H&S Management Plan, ensure CDM compliance, conduct site inspections and audits, and manage H&S concerns and risks.
- Support commercial and contractual management activities, progress reporting, change management, contractor performance management and escalation of commercial risks and issues.
- Coordinate package reporting, programme updates, risks, actions and delivery status through agreed project controls and reporting processes.
- Maintain effective coordination and communication across contractors, project functions and wider stakeholder groups to support safe and successful package delivery.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent discipline.
- APM PPQ qualification or equivalent project management qualification preferred.
- Demonstrable track record delivering large‑scale HV infrastructure, energy or major infrastructure projects.
- Experience managing principal contractors and complex package interfaces during construction delivery.
- Experience of managing contractors, consultants and advisors in a regulated environment (NEC or FIDIC contracts).
- Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and construction health & safety management within major infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency coordinating multi‑disciplinary delivery teams across engineering, construction and commissioning activities.
- Strong understanding of programme, commercial and package delivery management within major infrastructure projects.
- Experience working within regulated infrastructure and complex stakeholder environments, including DCO or equivalent major project structures.
- Familiarity with energisation, commissioning and handover processes associated with HV systems.
- Strong communication, coordination and stakeholder management skills across contractors, engineering functions and project leadership teams.
Location / Site Presence Requirements
This role is site‑based. The employee must be present on the Longfield project site near Chelmsford, Essex, five days per week during construction and commissioning. Attendance at governance and stakeholder meetings at EDF Power Solutions offices in Cardinal Place, London and other locations may also be required. After Longfield, the role will transition to other DCO or major infrastructure projects across the UK, requiring similar site‑based delivery.
