Ready to lead critical engineering activity on one of the UK’s most ambitious low‑carbon projects? Keen to work at the heart of a collaborative site‑based environment where your technical expertise truly drives progress? At EDF, Success is Personal – and your career journey is yours to shape.

As a Civil Deputy Lead, you’ll be a key member of the Area Civil Team, playing a vital role in delivering high‑quality engineering that keeps construction progressing safely and efficiently at Hinkley Point C. You’ll help resolve complex civil‑engineering issues on site, ensuring that critical nuclear‑island structures can be built to the highest standards. EDF EPR Engineering UK delivers the design for nuclear island buildings, systems, and equipment for Hinkley Point C and similar projects. Working as part of an integrated team, EPR Engineering supports construction and commissioning while preparing design‑replication feasibility and related engineering activities. You’ll be based directly on the Hinkley Point C construction site, working in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment where decisions matter and your expertise have immediate impact. Operating within the Joint Design Office, you’ll broaden your technical capability while helping drive solutions that support one of the UK’s most significant low‑carbon infrastructure projects.

We’re looking for a Civil Lead who brings strong technical judgement, clear communication and confident leadership. Do you offer…

  • A background in civil engineering with experience in nuclear design or design‑to‑construction interfaces.
  • Strong knowledge of nuclear civil structures, design codes (including ETC‑C) and safety requirements.
  • Experience leading teams and managing complex, cross‑discipline technical topics.
  • Confident working with 2D/3D design tools and navigating a multicultural, multi‑partner environment.
  • The ability to prioritise, manage multiple interfaces and deliver high‑quality technical outputs to deadline.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Leading the Integrated Reactive Team to deliver fast, high‑quality technical solutions that unblock urgent construction activities.
  • Acting as deputy for the N2 Area Operational Lead, overseeing the full scope of civil activities when required.
  • Steering design modifications and ensuring updated deliverables are produced accurately, consistently and to process.
  • Managing team workload and coordinating engineering partners (Atkins, INGEROP, ICOS) to deliver design updates and calculations.
  • Ensuring compliance with Responsible Designer methods, tools and delegated authority while safeguarding design integrity.
  • Approving technical responses, Cat4 NCRs and FCRs, and balancing programme, safety and stakeholder needs to secure the best project outcomes.

Alongside a salary from £56,506, potential for an annual bonus, and a market‑leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more. Everyone is welcome at EDF; we’re committed to building a workforce that reflects gender balance, social mobility, and inclusion of minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities, and those with disabilities. As a Disability Confident employer, we will support applicants requiring adjustments.
