Department Control Functions is one of the three business aligned verticals in IT Delivery (the other two being Front Office and Trade Operations). Control Functions fulfils the requirements in the area of valuation, market and credit risk, financial control and regulatory compliance i.e. post trading operations.
The team has a broad range of complementary skill sets and is dynamic yet highly disciplined in its approach. It employs a large Microsoft technical stack with a mix of on-premises and azure cloud functions. Working on one of the key interfaces between the business and IT, a good understanding of the commodity trading business context in which the applications are used, as well as solid IT software engineering practices are both of paramount importance.
The team's core responsibility includes developing bespoke systems, reporting solutions and integrations into proprietary and third‑party vendor systems to meet the business needs for Treasury, Finance, Tax, Market Risk, Credit Risk, Contracts and Settlements and Product Control. The team is focused on delivering best‑in‑class solutions that are strategically aligned, robust, supportable, and operationally efficient. We operate within a flat team structure, where each team member is responsible for the end‑to‑end delivery of their solutions.
Developers are expected to participate throughout the full delivery lifecycle, including analysis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of outcomes, with support and guidance from senior developers and business analysts. They are also encouraged to contribute to the continuous improvement of development practices and to actively participate in shaping and delivering the team's evolving technology roadmap.
The team needs a full stack developer with a strong emphasis on backend development. They will be responsible for enhancing existing applications and developing new solutions with a focus on database development and .Net application layer. Whilst front end (Angular) experience is desirable, more weightage is given to the above.
Main Responsibilities:
- Use technology appropriately and flexibly, taking into consideration the company’s strategy and recommendations.
- Adhere to the company’s standards and best practices, including, but not limited to, documentation, testing and peer reviews.
- Ensure maintenance of the development infrastructure required by the above tools. Maintenance of the source code repository, continuous build and deployment facilities.
- Seek opportunities to deliver business value via innovation. That requires being up-to-speed with technology trends and being able to select (and apply) new technologies where appropriate.
- Engage with the business or business analysts to assist them in defining requirements and forming solutions.
- Provide technical advice to the business users by identifying the most appropriate tools/processes for any given task.
- Work with the other IT delivery members to contribute and actively progress EDFT IT technology stack and development process such as release procedures and continuous integration.
- Keep abreast of industry technological developments and identify opportunities to implement new frameworks, technologies, and tools to provide a more efficient and effective service to the Business.
Experience required:
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in design and implementation of bespoke software solutions.
- Previous experience in a development role working closely with both IT and business customers.
- Experience in the design and construction of software/application solutions.
- Understanding of software development patterns and how they are commonly applied in today’s development industry.
- Ability to work with business and technical stakeholders to deliver suitable solutions.
- Knowledge of application development methodologies to create business focussed software solutions.
- Strong knowledge backed up with commercial experience of database architecture and design.
- Strong level business intelligence and data visualisation skills within the Microsoft domain.
- Strong DevOps and agile fundamentals.
Technical requirements:
- Strong experience of leading and developing solutions using the following technologies: Most of the following technologies:
- Experience in designing and building distributed systems using Microsoft C#, .NET Core and Web API.
- Experience working with relational databases such as Oracle or SQL Server.
- Experience with deploying applications to Cloud infrastructure such as Azure.
- Experience in application containerisation and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience in business intelligence using Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, SQL Server Integration Services.

Hours of work: 8.30am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. However, the candidate will be expected to be flexible to meet project deadlines.
Place of Work: EDF Trading has a flexible office/remote working policy. This role requires a minimum of three days per week in our London office.
