We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as an HSE Specialist to work in a truly global environment, supporting health, safety and environmental (HSE) excellence across our Liquid Products terminals in Europe. Working closely with site managers and operational teams, you will play a key role in implementing HSE programmes, driving compliance with regulatory and internal standards, alongside conducting audits and training to foster a proactive safety culture. Key Accountabilities:

  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of HSE policies, procedures and programmes, whilst ensuring compliance with company standards and applicable regulatory requirements across the terminals.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits and workplace assessments to identify hazards, verify compliance and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented effectively.
  • Support the planning, coordination and delivery of internal and external HSE audits, including ISO 14001 environmental management system audits, identifying non-conformances and assisting with the development and monitoring of corrective action plans.
  • Assist in the investigation of incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions, conducting root cause analysis and supporting the implementation of effective corrective and preventive measures.
  • Deliver HSE inductions, training and awareness programmes for employees and contractors, promoting a proactive safety culture and ensuring understanding of company standards and regulatory obligations.
  • Support initiatives that improve environmental sustainability and compliance, related to energy consumption, waste management and emissions.
  • Support environmental compliance through the implementation of spill prevention, pollution control and emergency response measures, ensuring environmental risks are effectively managed.
  • Maintain accurate HSE records, documentation and reporting, including incident records, audit findings, compliance activities and regulatory submissions.
  • Monitor, analyse and report HSE performance metrics, identifying trends, opportunities for improvement and supporting the achievement of business objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with operational teams, site management and other stakeholders to promote continuous improvement in safety performance and embed HSE best practice across all terminal activities.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning, response exercises and drills, ensuring emergency procedures remain effective and personnel are appropriately trained.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of UK, European and local HSE legislation, ensuring changes in regulatory requirements are effectively communicated and implemented.
  • Support cross-functional projects, capital investment initiatives and management of change processes by providing specialist HSE guidance to ensure risks are effectively identified and controlled.
  • Liaise with external auditors, regulatory authorities and other relevant stakeholders, supporting inspections, compliance activities and the resolution of regulatory matters.
  • Act as a trusted source of technical HSE expertise, providing guidance on hazard controls, personal protective equipment, risk management and regulatory compliance while promoting a visible commitment to safety, personal accountability and continuous improvement.

Skills and Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in a Health, Safety and Environment role within the bulk liquid storage, chemical, manufacturing or other high-hazard industrial sectors is desirable, however candidates from outside of these industries are invited to apply.
  • A recognised professional qualification in Health, Safety and Environment, such as NEBOSH or an equivalent certification, is essential. Additional environmental management qualifications or experience with ISO 14001 are desirable.
  • Good knowledge of UK, European and applicable local HSE legislation, together with practical experience implementing HSE management systems, policies and compliance programmes.
  • Experience supporting or leading internal and external HSE audits, incident investigations, root cause analysis and the development of corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Understanding of environmental management principles, including pollution prevention, spill response, waste management, emissions monitoring and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to identify risks, implement practical solutions and drive continuous improvement.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and capable of managing multiple priorities while working independently and collaboratively across a geographically diverse organisation.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with a structured approach to documentation, reporting and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, engage and build effective working relationships with employees, contractors, management teams and external stakeholders.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, with the ability to produce accurate reports, analyse data and maintain HSE records.
  • Willingness to travel regularly (approximately 25%) across the locations in Europe.
