The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Station Architect Engineer (SAE) to join the Project Delivery organisation at Heysham 1. The SAE provides governance and oversight to the technical requirements and ensures value solutions are in place for the Stations Projects/Programme Portfolio. This is a technical leadership role working closely with stakeholders, throughout the business, to ensure alignment of design requirements with a focus on engineering and safety case requirements across the investment portfolio.

The salary range offered with this role is between £64,261 to £99,929 with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Company Agreement and will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experiences, and qualifications. What you will be doing

In this role you will ensure early engagement with significant programmes and projects and use their influence to shape and set the direction of the project in a collaborative manner with the parties involved. In addition to this:

• Ensuring the real problem is identified, understood and recorded.
• Forming the engineering and safety case teams by engaging and communicating with Central Technical Organisation Group Heads and Project Support Officers to ensure appropriate technical resources are assigned to the project.
• Proactively initiating the design control process; identifying and mitigating risks throughout the full lifecycle of the project/programme.
• Ensuring that delivery of value through the technical lifecycle is a key focus.
• Demonstrating strong commercial awareness of the financial implications of the solutions identified.
• Building effective relationships with key stakeholders and project team members with the ability to influence and direct the people resources to deliver the required outcomes with speed.
• Set the technical delivery strategy for the scheme including how it interfaces with other company processes.
• Ensuring CDM 2015 requirements are understood and incorporated within design activities.

Who you are

As a minimum, you will be educated to HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, holding a relevant Degree is desirable and Chartered Engineer status, or equivalent, would be an advantage. Relevant project experience within engineering/construction projects would be preferable, alongside a good working knowledge of Safety Case Management roles and responsibilities. You should be able to demonstrate experience and understanding of Health and Safety legislation including CDM regulations and the actions required to achieve compliance. You will be an outcome focused problem solver with an ability to utilise information and take accountability for driving solutions. You will need to be a clear communicator; working with various teams to lead and gain group consensus on how to move a project forward. This will require confidence, and a positive approach to complex situations; to achieve the best outcome for the project and EDF. This emotional intelligence and experience will enable you to prioritise nuclear safety culture and also recognise that speed of delivery is good for nuclear safety. This requires SAE’s to make/influence others to make judgements to enable fast decision making. An understanding of the needs of quality and how quality is assured and controlled, including project configuration management and document control is essential. You should have good leadership skills and be a strong influencer, with good interpersonal skills and a track record of delivering results. You’ll need to be a strong conflict manager with firm and assertive approach, alongside the enthusiasm and appetite to be a proactive team player. The flexibility to work within your own range of competencies to deliver departmental targets/improvement areas is also paramount.
