The HPC Jobs Service supports local people into exciting, long-term careers across our Project. Dalkia is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to support our Nuclear North team in solving complex organisational and operational challenges through people-based safety solutions and allow us to grow our unique culture as we grow the business. You’ll be an integral part of the team, so you’ll need to understand every aspect of the business and act as a leader regarding HSE within the Heysham 1 team. You will be guiding supervisors and managers through H&S in what is an exciting time of growth for the Dalkia Nuclear North team. Your ability to establish your personal and functional credibility and to build strong working relationships acting as a trusted advisor will be key. This is a full-time opportunity based in the Northwest working from the Heysham 1 Power Station office. Travel will be required to other Dalkia sites / Offices to support the growing portfolio of projects within the Nuclear North business, attend training or peer groups.
Accountabilities:
- Partner with specified Dalkia Projects to deliver a comprehensive Safety and Health advisory and guidance service to Site Managers & Project Managers and their teams to ensure all aspects of best practice safe working environment are established and maintained.
- Work as part of the Client’s integrated safety team with other Contract Partners.
- Support Dalkia’s pre-qualification process across Health, Safety, Environment and Quality components of bids.
- Track KPI’s – Leading and Lagging indicators and provide accurate data to the Head of Nuclear.
- Monitor Project site compliance and procedures against Dalkia’s policies and propose solutions.
- Review Risk Assessments, Method Statements and POWRA.
- Carry out HSSE audits and inspections as directed by the H&S Lead.
- Provide expert resources for investigations into incidents and near misses, illnesses, and injuries in order to establish root causes and make recommendations for changes and improvements to prevent reoccurrences.
- Work closely with the Business leadership and HR teams to define & deliver appropriate safety initiatives and plans.
- Support development of Subcontractor and suppliers’ approach to HSE performance and compliance.
- Prepare monthly statistics, presentations and data/insights analysis working with other H&S Advisors and subject matter experts as required.
- Ensure all worksites have a robust hazard identification and clear RAMS & SSOW in place that detail effective control measures.
- Lead or contribute to risk assessments, method statement reviews, and safe systems of work approvals.
- Ensure learning from experience and continuous business improvement is adopted throughout Dalkia operations.
- Accountable for reporting and investigating all incidents and accidents.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, regulations, and standards.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continual improvement of health and safety management systems in line with company policies and ISO standards (e.g. ISO 45001).
- Act as the focal point for all health and safety matters on-site or within the business unit.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture across the organisation and actively support behavioural safety initiatives.
- Establish effective ‘downward’ communication systems and management structures.
- Engage the workforce in the promotion and achievement of safe and healthy conditions.
- Provide high quality training based on a risk managed approach.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Working knowledge of HSE processes, practices and systems and the ability to drive their improvement.
- Ability to analyse and interpret HSSE data in order to drive informed data driven business decisions, and carry them out.
- The ability to build professional working relationships with internal and external staff, up to and including Senior Leadership Level.
- Support the development of Proactive Safety Reporting ensuring a continuous improvement safety culture is fully established onsite.
Minimum Qualifications / Experience:
- An industry recognised qualification such as the NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma or equivalent.
- H&S MSc / Chartered MIOSH status (Preferred but not essential).
- Ideally 3 years of HSSE experience in a Construction site environment.
- Nuclear Experience Preferred.
- Experience of maintaining or reaching externally audited management standards such as ISO45001.
Additional Qualifications / Experience:
- Ideally 3 years of HSE experience in the nuclear sector or other highly regulated environments.
- In-depth knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations.
- Must have strong interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills and be able to build relationships and advise senior management.
- Self-motivated with excellent time and priority management.
- High levels of IT literacy.
- Remains calm under pressure.
