This Nuclear Science Degree Apprenticeship offers a starting salary of £25,139 and the training and support to help you achieve a BEng in Nuclear Science, Operations and Technology. Over five and a half years, you’ll combine academic study with practical experience, working on some of the most exciting projects in the UK energy sector. From design and technical engineering to operations and construction, you’ll see how nuclear science powers progress. You’ll study at Lakes College West Cumbria on a block‑release basis, with access to modern facilities and expert teaching. Alongside your studies, you’ll gain real‑world experience at EDF locations such as Gloucester, supporting our journey towards An Electric Britain.
Your time will be split between Lakes College West Cumbria and EDF’s Gloucester Business Park. You may also have placements at other EDF sites during the programme. College learning will follow a block‑release model, with four one‑week blocks and an exam week per semester.

Who You Are:
To be eligible for this EDF apprenticeship programme, you need to have:
- GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths
- A minimum of 102 UCAS points (e.g., three A‑Levels at grade C or above including Maths and a Science subject, or a relevant Level 3 qualification)
- A passion for engineering and nuclear science
- The ability to balance study and work, and work well in a team
Security Vetting:
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.
