Somerset Larder is seeking a General Catering Assistant for the Hinkley Point C Project across Sedgemoor Campus.
Role Summary
Provide a welcoming customer experience within the campus restaurant, ensuring clean facilities and handling front‑of‑house and back‑of‑house duties.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers, advise on products, and resolve queries.
- Deliver excellent customer service and maintain high satisfaction.
- Assist with food preparation, cooking, and serving.
- Handle payments at tills using cards and cash, and clarify purchase choices.
- Resolve initial customer queries or refer to supervisor.
- Clean equipment, crockery, and cutlery as required.
- Operate in various areas such as serveries, deli/retail, hospitality orders, functions/events, coffee shops, bars.
- Ensure food is handled per Food Safety & Quality Management System and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct food safety and stock checks and record them.
- Take delivery of stock, check, and account for items.
- Act as Banksman and perform other job‑specific operations.
- Receive deliveries, check supplier invoices in line with company procedures.
- Remove waste promptly and place it in correct containers per site waste plan.
- Store raw materials and packaging in correct areas.
- Carry out tasks efficiently, considering production or allergen constraints.
- Participate as a HACCP team member if required.
- Operate within H&S legislation and Codes of Practice.
- Maintain production and quality records accurately.
- Ensure traceability compliance.
- Carry out accredited FSQMS activities where relevant.
- Participate in professional development and training, including occasional overnight travel.
- Carry out tasks as requested by supervisor/manager.
- Embrace and actively participate in Zero Harm culture.
Qualifications
- Full UK driving licence with at least 12 months experience and no more than 6 points (desirable).
- Level 2 Food Safety qualification (desirable).
Pre‑Employment Screening
Successful applicants will be required to provide a three‑year employment history and five‑year address history to work on Hinkley Point C. They must provide in‑date photographic ID and proof of right to work in the UK for security clearance, as the role is on a nuclear regulated site.
