Main Responsibilities

  • Act as commercial lead across allocated project packages, providing strategic QS and contractual leadership.
  • Lead preparation and management of cost plans, budgets, forecasts and cost reporting.
  • Oversee valuations, applications for payment and maximisation of commercial entitlement.
  • Drive commercial performance, risk management and cost control across packages.

Procurement and Tendering

  • Lead subcontract procurement strategy, tendering, evaluation and award recommendations.
  • Oversee tender analysis and negotiation of commercial terms.
  • Support procurement strategy development aligned with programme and project requirements.

Contracts, Claims and Final Accounts

  • Lead administration of subcontract and main contract obligations including change management, compensation events and claims.
  • Support preparation and substantiation of complex claims and commercial protection strategies.
  • Drive agreement of final accounts and commercial close-out across work packages.

Leadership and Stakeholder Management

  • Provide commercial leadership and direction to delivery teams on scope, risk and contractual matters.
  • Lead and mentor junior commercial staff, reviewing outputs and supporting consistent standards.
  • Develop strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.

Reporting and Forecasting

  • Lead monthly commercial reporting including cost/value reconciliation, forecasts, liabilities and cash flow projections.
  • Ensure reporting aligns with project controls and governance requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with commercial procedures and project standards.

Education

  • BSc / MSc in Quantity Surveying or Construction-related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Professional membership (e.g. RICS or working towards equivalent accreditation).

Experience

  • Proven experience as an MQS or Senior Quantity Surveyor on major infrastructure projects.
  • Strong track record in subcontract procurement, package management and commercial leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC / JCT and construction contract administration.
  • Experience managing valuations, variations, forecasts, claims and final accounts on complex projects.
  • Experience leading commercial teams within live construction or infrastructure environments.
