About the Role

Are you experienced in working independently on your own initiative and communicating financial and tax information at a variety of levels? Do you have proven experience in UK corporation tax within a large business and/or a large accounting practice? If so, we may have the perfect opportunity for you here at EDF as a Direct Tax Business Partner within the EDF Corporate Functions Team!

The Opportunity…

We’re seeking a Direct Tax Associate to join our Corporate Finance function and play a critical role in ensuring EDF UK’s direct tax compliance and strategic tax objectives are met. Sitting within the Tax team—comprising 13 dedicated professionals—you’ll contribute to our broader mission as Britain’s largest generator of zero-carbon electricity. Reporting directly to the Direct Tax Manager, you’ll support the Head of Direct Taxation in delivering EDF’s Tax Strategy. This includes managing key relationships with HMRC, government bodies, and regulators, as well as ensuring compliance across all business units. Working closely with other corporate functions, you’ll act as a trusted business partner, helping to embed tax compliance and insight into the fabric of EDF’s operations.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a competitive salary and the potential to earn a bonus, 28 days holiday plus bank holidays and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal. We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans. At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated. Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility. We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments. We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll collaborate closely with Business Units and act as a key link between them and the wider Finance team. You’ll be responsible for producing complete and accurate corporation tax returns for companies within the EDF Group, preparing individual company tax provisions and disclosures, and providing timely, accurate information on the corporate tax charge to the finance department. You’ll influence part of the process of negotiating and agreeing the tax liabilities with HMRC and responding to correspondence from HMRC. You’ll be responsible for the interaction between the Tax team and the Business Unit processes that support tax compliance and returns. You’ll develop and improve processes to capture tax information, enhance compliance, and strengthen accounting for tax risk provisioning - while supporting automation and digitisation initiatives. You’ll review tax information submitted by Business Units, ensuring accuracy and sufficient detail to comply with legislation. You’ll collaborate with Finance colleagues and oversee training to complete tax information and ensure each Business Unit understands and delivers on their tax responsibilities - agreeing both the format and timing of required information.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who thrives on working independently and takes initiative to deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced, regulated environment. You’ll demonstrate excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise effectively—while remaining agile and responsive to evolving business needs. With proven experience in UK corporation tax, whether in a large accounting firm or a complex corporate environment, you’ll have the technical foundation and commercial awareness to contribute meaningfully from day one. You’ll be confident in communicating financial and tax-related matters across a range of audiences and functions, translating complexity into clarity. Stakeholder engagement is central to this role. You’ll bring strong relationship-building skills and the ability to influence across the organisation, acting as a trusted partner to colleagues and external bodies. Your communication style will build confidence and alignment, ensuring that tax considerations are embedded in business decision-making. You’ll be digitally fluent, with strong skills in Word, Excel, and tax software. Familiarity with SAP and Alteryx will be an advantage as we continue to develop smarter, more efficient ways of working. You’ll be qualified—or working toward qualification—in accounting and/or tax, demonstrating both your expertise and your commitment to professional development. Above all, you’ll carry out your role with integrity and care, championing health, safety, wellbeing, and sustainability. Your contribution will support EDF in being a resilient, responsible business—financially, environmentally, and socially. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!
