The Blue Hat Civils Working Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating civil construction works on site, ensuring that all activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with design specifications, quality standards, and site procedures. The Civils Working Supervisor will manage teams of operatives and subcontractors, drive productivity, and ensure compliance with nuclear site safety and quality requirements.
As part of our team, you will:
- Supervise daily civil engineering and construction activities.
- Manage and coordinate operatives, plant, and subcontractors to deliver works safely, on time, and to specification.
- Ensure all work complies with approved construction drawings, method statements, risk assessments (RAMS), and site quality standards.
- Conduct daily briefings, toolbox talks, and safety inspections to maintain a strong safety culture.
- Monitor progress against plans, report issues or delays, and assist in developing corrective action plans.
- Check that all materials, plant, and equipment are available and fit for purpose before work begins.
- Ensure that all workers under supervision are trained, competent, and authorised for their tasks.
- Maintain accurate daily records including labour, plant, materials used, and work completed.
- Identify and report hazards, near misses, and unsafe acts or conditions through the site reporting system.
- Support quality assurance by completing inspections, ensuring proper concrete testing, rebar checks, and recording as-built data.
- Liaise with other disciplines (mechanical, electrical, environmental, logistics) to coordinate safe and efficient delivery of works.
- Promote continuous improvement, efficiency, and right-first-time delivery in all civil works.
- Support environmental compliance by minimising waste, preventing pollution, and ensuring correct use of spill response procedures.
Qualifications:
- Sound understanding of civils construction techniques - e.g., earthworks, drainage, formwork, rebar, and concrete operations.
- Excellent knowledge of construction health and safety requirements, including RAMS, permit-to-work systems, and lifting operations.
- CSCS Supervisor Card (or higher).
- SSSTS or SMSTS certification.
- Experience working on nuclear or power generation sites (e.g., Hinkley Point C, Sellafield, or similar).
- First Aid at Work certification.
- CPCS or NPORS plant operation knowledge (for supervision purposes).
- Temporary Works Supervisor certification.
- Aware of quality management systems (QA/QC).

It pays to be self-assured in this role, with a firm belief in your own abilities and ambition, and a willingness to put in the hard work necessary to get where you and the business want to be. Proven experience as a Working Supervisor / General Foreman / Civils Supervisor on large-scale civil engineering or infrastructure projects. Demonstrable leadership skills and ability to motivate and coordinate teams of operatives and subcontractors. Strong communication and organisational skills. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
