The person appointed to the Deputy Head of Department will have an integral role in designing and delivering outstanding provision across the Curriculum through excellent leadership of curriculum teams and coordinating the operational delivery of provision. Working collaboratively with the Assistant Principal and other members of the College Management Team, you will be a key figurehead in managing and supporting the continued success of the department.
At the heart of the role is to support the college in delivering its vision: achieving the overarching strategic aims that have been developed in response to the current context of local, regional and national priorities. In addition, the role will influence our response to the climate emergency, digital transformation, and our continued work to strengthen equality, diversity, and inclusion for all.
You will play a critical role in overseeing the operational day-to-day running of the department, whilst supporting the Assistant Principal in achieving departmental KPIs, appropriate financial contribution and implementing a robust curriculum plan that allows for growth, meeting the needs of our students and local, regional & national skills priorities.

We are passionate about teaching, learning and assessment and as such, critical to this post, the post-holder will need to be an excellent classroom practitioner, with the ability to develop and lead teaching & learning initiatives and pedagogical practice.

Requirements:
- Hold a Degree or have relevant industry recognised qualifications that will add significant value to the department
- Hold a level 5 Teaching Qualification or be prepared to work towards
- Previous line management experience within the FE sector
- Track record of leading a successful curriculum/or programme(s) over a significant period of time
- Have a strong desire to see students succeed and a clear understanding of the needs of students and how these may be met
- A passion to work collaboratively as part of a high performing team
- A strong track record of being a highly effective and well organised manager and leader with an ability to role model excellent practice
- Be able to demonstrate significant experience delivering within Further and/or Higher Education curriculum
- Be an excellent communicator with highly developed interpersonal skills
- Effective skills in problem solving
- Have strong digital skills and be confident in utilising them to support student progress
- A sound understanding of business management concepts
- Exemplify excellent leadership capabilities that will allow you to drive forward a high-performing team.
