Our Chemistry Apprenticeship offers a starting salary of £25,139 and the chance to study for a BSc Laboratory Scientist Degree. This four-year programme combines practical experience with academic learning, giving you skills you won’t find on campus.

You’ll work with industry-leading experts at Hinkley Point C, gaining experience in nuclear power plant chemistry, chemical safety, technical governance, discharge standards, and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). You’ll also learn to solve problems and identify improvements that make a real difference.

Your studies will be delivered online by Manchester Metropolitan University, supported by annual intensive lab weeks. By the end of the programme, you’ll have a degree, hands-on experience, and a career that’s ready to grow – all while supporting the journey towards An Electric Britain.

You’ll be based at our Hinkley Point C in Bridgwater, working on site and connecting with colleagues across EDF. Your time will be split between practical learning at Hinkley Point C and online study, with annual lab weeks at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Who You Are

To be eligible for this EDF apprenticeship programme, you need to have:

  • GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths
  • A minimum of 112 UCAS points at A-level (grades BCC), including Chemistry or an equivalent scientific discipline, or an appropriate BTEC National award (90+ credits)
  • Relevant experience, including voluntary activities

You’ll also bring curiosity, problem-solving skills, and a collaborative approach to learning and work.

Security Vetting

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.
