A Pipefitting Apprentice supports qualified pipefitters in the installation, maintenance, and repair of pipework systems. The role combines practical, on-the-job training with formal apprenticeship learning to develop the technical skills, safety awareness, and industry knowledge required to become a competent pipefitter.

Key Responsibilities – Technical & Practical Duties

  • Assist in the installation, assembly, fabrication, and fitting of pipework systems.
  • Support cutting, bending, threading, and preparation of pipes and fittings.
  • Learn to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and isometric diagrams.
  • Assist with pressure testing, inspections, and system commissioning.
  • Carry out basic maintenance and fault-finding under supervision.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment safely and correctly.
  • Assist with materials handling, site preparation, and housekeeping.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all site health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and risk assessments.
  • Report hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly.
  • Comply with company policies and industry regulations.

Learning & Development

  • Attend college as part of the apprenticeship programme.
  • Work towards relevant vocational qualifications.
  • Seek feedback and demonstrate continuous improvement.
  • Develop knowledge of materials, systems, and industry best practice.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
  • Commitment to completing an apprenticeship programme.
  • Willingness to learn and develop practical engineering skills.
