- Paid position on the Unqualified Teacher (UQT) scale (most commonly UQ1)
- Employed directly by a school from day one
- Higher initial teaching load, typically around 15 periods per week, increasing gradually to about 20 periods

- History graduate with any of the following degrees: History, American Studies (History), Anthropology (History), Classics (History), History of Art, Architecture & Design (History), Politics (History), Social Policy (History), Sociology (History), Theology & Religious Studies (History), Ancient and Modern History (History), Anglo‑Saxon, Norse, and Celtic (History), Economic History and Geography (History), History and Politics (History), Modern European Languages and History (History).
- Good A‑Levels and GCSEs across the board.
- Confidence in both the GCSE & A‑Level curriculum.
- Ability to engage and motivate students.
