This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced underwriting professional to take ownership of the business's technical underwriting framework and oversight. Reporting directly to the Chief Underwriting Officer, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring underwriting arrangements, delegated authorities and reinsurance structures operate effectively, compliantly and in line with the business plan.
Core responsibilities:
- Lead the development, ownership and adherence of the underwriting guidelines framework.
- Take responsibility for technical underwriting oversight across MGA partners and delegated underwriting arrangements.
- Lead MGA underwriting audits and expert review processes, ensuring activities remain within agreed binding authority parameters.
- Oversee bordereaux exception reporting and identify risks bound outside the scope of agreed authorities.
- Develop and maintain a repository of approved policy wordings and oversee wording governance.
- Work closely with Portfolio Underwriters, the CUO and reinsurers to manage referrals and ensure appropriate back-to-back coverage.
- Lead exposure and clash management, ensuring risks remain within appetite and supporting regulatory and reinsurance reporting requirements.
- Support due diligence activities for new MGA appointments and existing partner renewals.
- Work with the CUO to assess underwriting performance across individual MGAs and the wider portfolio, implementing changes where required.
- Support the assessment and ongoing adequacy of loss caps.
- Partner with the Head of Reinsurance Placement and legal counsel to design and maintain effective reinsurance arrangements.
- Ensure MGA and product-level arrangements are appropriately aligned with underlying reinsurance protections.
- Take ownership of relevant underwriting governance, audit and action tracking, ensuring timely completion.
- Deputise for the Chief Underwriting Officer where required, including attendance at Board and underwriting governance meetings.
