We are currently partnering with a rapidly-growing MGA to recruit a Chief Operating Officer. The successful candidate will be accountable for optimising MGA operational and reporting capability, ensuring tight integration across underwriting, operations, and compliance to support efficient, data-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Partner with the senior leadership to align operational delivery with business objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement to enhance operational efficiency, consistency, and risk management.
  • Ensure operational workflows effectively support delegated authority arrangements, renewal cycles, and risk selection.
  • Lead underwriting operations and binder management, ensuring robust portfolio monitoring, reporting, and risk analytics.
  • Work closely with senior underwriters to identify and resolve operational and system bottlenecks.
  • Oversee the integration of new MGA acquisitions and strategic partnerships.
  • Ensure Appointed Representative (AR) processes operate in line with regulatory and operational requirements.
  • Set direction for IT and systems strategy, ensuring platforms support underwriting, operations, and reporting needs.
  • Drive secure, compliant, and efficient use of technology, including automation and enhanced data insight.
  • Provide first-line operational and underwriting compliance oversight, supporting a strong risk and compliance culture.
  • Maintain audit-ready processes, conduct operational risk assessments, and implement mitigating actions.
  • Lead, develop, and resource high-performing underwriting and operations teams, fostering accountability, collaboration, and talent progression.

The ideal candidate:

  • Proven operational experience within an MGA, Lloyd’s broker, or insurance carrier environment.
  • Deep understanding of underwriting operations, delegated authority structures, and binder management.
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects and delivering operational and systems implementations.
  • Strong capability in data analytics and management reporting platforms to support informed decision-making.
