An exciting opportunity to join a growing Lloyd’s Managing Agency as a Syndicate Financial Controller, with responsibility for the day-to-day financial control and Finance operations across the managing agency and its managed syndicates. The role will own the financial close, trial balance, balance-sheet integrity, non-technical result, treasury oversight and financial control framework, working closely with Finance and the wider business to deliver accurate, timely and well-controlled reporting. This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced Lloyd’s finance professional who can combine strong technical accounting knowledge with commercial judgement, financial control expertise and the ability to work effectively across a growing and evolving organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day Finance operations, including treasury, cash management, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations and ledger controls.
  • Own and deliver the financial close timetable, coordinating inputs and dependencies across the managing agency and managed syndicates.
  • Deliver the trial balance, supporting analysis and timely review of financial results.
  • Work closely with technical accounting and regulatory reporting teams to ensure complete, accurate and controlled financial information.
  • Own the non-technical result and associated financial controls.
  • Act as a financial control partner across Finance, supporting the investigation and resolution of accounting, reporting, systems and control issues.
  • Ensure assets and liabilities are recognised and measured appropriately in accordance with UK GAAP and Solvency UK requirements.
  • Maintain robust balance‑sheet substantiation, reconciliations and review evidence.
  • Oversee treasury controls, cash‑flow and liquidity reporting, and support investment and liquidity governance.
  • Develop and maintain the financial control framework and ensure controls operate effectively.
  • Work with data owners and wider business functions to improve the quality and control of data feeding into financial reporting.

Must Haves

  • Fully qualified accountant with relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Strong experience within the Lloyd’s market or a comparable insurance environment.
  • Strong knowledge of syndicate accounting, financial close, balance-sheet control and insurance results.
  • Good understanding of UK GAAP, Solvency UK and Lloyd’s reporting and control requirements.
  • Experience across both technical and non-technical insurance accounting.
  • Strong financial controls experience, including reconciliations, substantiation and control frameworks.
  • Experience with treasury, liquidity management and audit delivery.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the confidence to review and challenge financial and underwriting data.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to deliver accurately against demanding deadlines.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership and build credible relationships across the business.
  • Comfortable operating in a growing and evolving environment, with a proactive approach to process improvement.
  • Sound judgement, resilience and a high level of professional integrity.
