An excellent opportunity to join a leading specialist insurance organisation as an Accounting Manager. The role will take ownership of the monthly, quarterly and annual underwriting results across Syndicate and company operations, ensuring accurate reporting, robust financial controls and effective month-end processes. You will also lead and develop a small team of accountants, working closely with senior Finance, Actuarial, FP&A, Reinsurance and Regulatory Reporting teams to deliver accurate technical data within demanding deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the preparation and delivery of monthly, quarterly and annual underwriting results, including premiums, earnings, claims, reserves, IBNR and acquisition costs.
  • Lead, manage and develop a small team of accountants.
  • Own the month-end accounting process and coordinate all related activities.
  • Design, maintain and enhance financial controls, reconciliations and schedules covering technical insurance balances.
  • Ensure accurate booking and allocation of underwriting results across relevant lines of business, locations, accident years, years of account and statutory classes.
  • Oversee technical general ledger reconciliations and resolve data issues, reconciling items and control exceptions.
  • Maintain data quality and integrity across core financial systems and the general ledger.
  • Own the reconciliation of legal entity and origin basis underwriting results.
  • Ensure appropriate currency allocations for technical balances.
  • Provide information and supporting schedules to internal and external auditors.
  • Partner with FP&A, Actuarial, Reinsurance, Regulatory Reporting and other teams to deliver accurate underwriting data.
  • Drive continuous improvement across month-end processes, controls and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, primarily US GAAP.
  • Work with international technical accounting teams on the monthly reporting process.

Must Haves

  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent experience.
  • Strong experience in insurance technical accounting, ideally covering both Lloyd’s and company markets.
  • Strong understanding of underwriting results, technical insurance balances and financial controls.
  • Previous experience managing and developing a small accounting team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience working with large and complex datasets.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to take ownership, manage competing priorities and deliver to tight deadlines.
  • Experience with Alteryx and/or SQL would be advantageous.
