Technical Director

Glasgow Full-Time 65000 - 75000 £ / year (est.) No home office possible

A leading consultancy is seeking a Technical Director – Ecology to head up its Scottish terrestrial ecology team. This senior role oversees around 20 ecologists across three Scottish offices, supporting a varied portfolio of projects and shaping the long‑term direction of ecology services in Scotland.

The Role

Provide senior technical leadership across major ecological projects
Oversee project delivery, quality assurance, and compliance
Review EIAR, HRA and other technical reports
Support fee proposals, tenders, and client engagement
Lead team performance, recruitment, and staff development
Act as a key contact for statutory consultees and multidisciplinary teams
Contribute to business planning, financial performance, and service growth

You’ll maintain oversight of 150–170 active projects annually, ranging from small assignments to major infrastructure work.

What You’ll Bring

Strong experience in ecological consultancy and team leadership
Deep understanding of the Scottish planning system
Technical expertise in EIAR, HRA and ecological assessment
Commercial awareness, including budgeting and forecasting
Ability to mentor and develop staff at all levels
Confidence engaging with clients, consultees, and partners

Experience with Public Local Inquiry/DCO processes, protected species licensing, or a recognised technical specialism would be beneficial.
