A leading consultancy is seeking a Technical Director – Ecology to head up its Scottish terrestrial ecology team. This senior role oversees around 20 ecologists across three Scottish offices, supporting a varied portfolio of projects and shaping the long‑term direction of ecology services in Scotland.
The Role
- Provide senior technical leadership across major ecological projects
- Oversee project delivery, quality assurance, and compliance
- Review EIAR, HRA and other technical reports
- Support fee proposals, tenders, and client engagement
- Lead team performance, recruitment, and staff development
- Act as a key contact for statutory consultees and multidisciplinary teams
- Contribute to business planning, financial performance, and service growth
You’ll maintain oversight of 150–170 active projects annually, ranging from small assignments to major infrastructure work.
What You’ll Bring
- Strong experience in ecological consultancy and team leadership
- Deep understanding of the Scottish planning system
- Technical expertise in EIAR, HRA and ecological assessment
- Commercial awareness, including budgeting and forecasting
- Ability to mentor and develop staff at all levels
- Confidence engaging with clients, consultees, and partners
Experience with Public Local Inquiry/DCO processes, protected species licensing, or a recognised technical specialism would be beneficial.
